Call of Duty: WWII Ranked Play Begins Today

Xbox Players can join the first season of CoD: WWII Ranked Play starting at 6 PM GMT today.

Sledgehammer has announced that will kick off Call of Duty: WWII’s first season of ranked play today at 6 PM GMT. Xbox users can compete with other players of similar skill to progress through the ranks and earn themselves exclusive helmets as a reward.

Earn exclusive Helmets as you reach each tier for use permanently in Ranked Play and Multiplayer.

Players will compete in 4v4 matches, which are called “8s”.  Winning a match earns points towards being promoted to the next tier while losing a match, or forfeiting by leaving the game, will result in a loss of points. The game modes included are Search & Destroy, Capture the Flag, and Hardpoint all with eSports settings enabled.

By Participating in matches throughout the season you will be promoted through tiers before the placement season ends. There are seven tiers to progress through in ranked play: Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Masters, and the Pro Tier. Only the top 100 players at the end the season, as determined by tier points, will enter the Pro Tier.

Ranked Play will follow Call of Duty’s 2018 competitive rules, which lays out gameplay restrictions for all competitive play. There are a variety of weapon, score streak, and basic training restrictions you will have to keep in mind when creating a class to participate.

Sledgehammer has also implemented penalties for players who leave matches early. Along with taking the loss and losing points, players will be hit with temporary bans as follows:

  • 1st offence: 15 minutes
  • 2nd offence: 30 minutes
  • 3rd offence: 45 minutes

Sledgehammer advises that Season 1 is an opportunity to ensure that all Ranked Play functionality is working and delivers the best experience for players, but that could mean things won’t be 100% perfect. They also noted that initially, party functionality will not be available at the start of Season 1, but that they will be enabling parties in Ranked Play soon.

Don’t let that dissuade you if you plan on participating in Ranked Play in the future, however. This first season is important to establish players’ MMR-based starting tier for Call of Duty: WWII Season 2 and beyond.

See you on the battlefield.
