Xbox One X sales are off to a strong start in its first week of sales. Retailer data reveals that the new console has sold over 80,000 units in the UK its first week, matching the sales of the Nintendo Switch earlier this year.
The figures also significantly higher than the Xbox One X’s closest competitor the PS4 Pro, which sold around 50,000 units in the same timeframe. When the PS4 Pro launched in November last year it took a month to sell 80,000 units.
One big difference between the systems may be the power. The Xbox One X offers plays around six teraflops of graphical processing power which is about four times as many as the Original Xbox One and 1.5 times the PS4 Pro. That means games will load faster and run more smoothly even if you haven’t invested in 4K display yet.
It represents a much bigger step up in power for Xbox One users for the price than the PS4 Pro is for PS4 users. Microsoft is pushing their library of “enhanced games” to support the sales of the One X. Not all enhanced games are created equal but titles like Assassin’s Creed: Origins and Forza Motorsport 7 are making the most out of their 4K HDR visuals.
Top selling games for the console this weekend including Call of Duty: WWII (which tops UK sales charts for a second week in a row), FIFA 18, Assassin’s Creed: Origins, and Forza Motorsport 7.
A large part of the sales was made up of Project Scorpio pre-orders; early adopters eager to get their hands on the significantly more powerful console. It remains to be seen whether or not Microsoft can maintain their momentum this holiday season.
